Clint Merritt, M.D., specializes in breast surgical oncology. While his primary focus as a breast surgeon is to treat patients with breast cancer, he also treats those with benign breast problems like a cyst, abscess, breast pain, nipple discharge and those in need of genetic counseling and testing.
Dr. Merritt’s journey into health care started at the beginning of his education when he was learning about science and realized that he enjoyed learning about the human body. “Like most surgeons, I enjoy working with my hands, so surgery was a natural fit.”
While many factors played a role in the decision to specialize his practice, the one that stuck with him the most was the relationships created beyond a diagnosis. “Breast surgery is one of the few surgical specialties with a major emphasis on long-term patient-physician relationships after a cancer diagnosis. It allows the breast surgeon and the patient to create a strong, trust-based relationship. I was also drawn to the ever-improving research in the fight against breast cancer,” he said.
When it comes to your health, Dr. Merritt said, “It is imperative that you begin and continue your yearly screening mammograms on time and seek professional help quickly if you develop a breast concern.”
Dr. Merritt’s education includes:
• Breast surgical oncology fellowship with Georgetown University in Washington D.C., 2021
• General surgery residency at the University of Texas (UT) Health-San Antonio, 2020
• General surgery residency at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV), 2017
• Medical degree at Ross University School of Medicine (RUSM) in Roseau, Dominica, British West Indies, 2014
• Bachelor’s degree in science at Oklahoma State University (OSU), 2010
Outside of working at the clinic and hospital, Dr. Merritt enjoys spending time with his wife and kids, running and swimming. A fun fact about Dr. Merritt is that he has an identical twin brother who is his best friend and works as a colon and rectal surgeon.
He welcomes new patients and accepts most insurance plans at:

Excellent doctor, super nice and takes the time to explain to his patients the procedures to be performed during their breast cancer treatment. For me he has been an angel sent by God in the middle of my process with breast cancer. God bless you!

100 stars!! We are SO SO SO blessed to have had Dr Merritt as my dr/surgeon. Dr Merritt and his team are AMAZING!!! Words cannot even describe how awesome the entire journey has been. From the start, when my husband and I first met him, we already felt at ease with him. He is patient, listens, anticipates, and is reassuring. His affirmations are positive and uplifting. No one ever says that about drs, nurses, surgery, and medication... but I am saying it. I could not have had a better dr/surgeon and team during this process. Each one of them (from receptionists to nurses to assistants) has been reachable, approachable, patient, efficient, just simply WONDERFUL and LOVELY! All of them answered all my questions, even questions I didn't think to ask. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! You all are seriously the BEST!
