About Elizabeth Couch-Harris, D.O.
Elizabeth Couch-Harris, D.O., specializes in obstetrics and gynecology (OB-GYN) at Utica Park Clinic (UPC) on the campus of Hillcrest Hospital South. Her professional areas of interest include urinary incontinence, pelvic floor disorders and caring for pregnant women. She said, “I get super excited about the birth of a baby.”
Dr. Couch-Harris’s inspiration to pursue a career in health care began when she had the opportunity to watch a childbirth. She said, “I saw a delivery when I was in the 7th grade and knew I wanted to do some kind of women’s health. Women are amazing!”
Once she got to medical school, there was no question about what her specialty would be. “There was never any other option. If I couldn’t do women’s health, I wouldn’t be in medicine at all,” she said.
Now, as an experienced provider delivering care to the women of Tulsa and surrounding areas, she makes it a point to continue building relationships with her patients. She said, “I am completely myself with my patients. I try to relate to them in any way possible. I am straightforward, to the point and try to communicate in a way that comforts but informs and is realistic. I am very efficient and try to never waste their time. I am always their advocate in every way, and I think they feel that.”
When it comes to passing along advice, she says, “Enjoy the time you have this baby all to yourself, soon you will have to share. For my gyn patients: if it’s not broke, don’t fix it, but if it is, don’t wait!”
Outside of work, Dr. Couch-Harris enjoys competing in equestrian events, showing reining horses and breeding babies. “Yes, I deliver them too,” she added. She also enjoys playing the piano at church and spending time with her husband and three sons.
When asked what patients may not expect when they come in for their appointment, Dr. Couch-Harris said it is likely her cowboy boots, jeans and her most prized belt buckle.
