About Stephen Pilkington, M.D.
“I chose internal medicine because of its focus on preventative medicine and its ability to offer longitudinal, long-lasting relationships with patients. Developing relationships with patients is very important to me, and internal medicine allowed for just that,” he said.
Dr. Pilkington has learned that the best way for himself and patients to build relationships is through open dialogue and conversation.
“My favorite advice to give to patients is to ask questions about their health and get involved in their care,” he said. “Two-way conversations between patients and providers tend to lead to better health outcomes for the patients and happier relationships between both parties.”
Dr. Pilkington was inspired by his mother, a nurse, and his step-father, a physician, to pursue a medical career. “Their collective examples and the obvious love they had for their patients inspired me to go into medicine,” he said.
When Dr. Pilkington isn’t working, he enjoys hanging out with his wife and friends, walking his two golden retrievers and reading fiction books. He also loves to watch and play basketball.
