About Mary Kay Daugherty PA-C
Mary Kay Daugherty, PA-C, specializes in orthopedic surgery at Utica Park Clinic (UPC).
Mary Kay’s inspiration to pursue a career as a physician assistant (PA) began during a career day in high school, where she met a PA. She said, “I knew early on that I wanted to pursue a career in medicine as a physician assistant. I love being a PA, and my position and education have allowed for me to aid patients with their personal health concerns in their most vulnerable moments. It truly is a privilege for me to work in this profession.”
Mary Kay’s passion for orthopedics quickly became her specialty of choice while completing clinical rotations. She said, “It was a natural fit for me and my learning style. Additionally, I enjoy the tangible results that the specialty brings for the patient, whether through surgical intervention or more conservative actions, such as physical therapy.”
Mary Kay wants to make sure each patient receives quality care and does so by building a good relationship. “I strive for a collaborative approach,” she said. “I want to ensure that each patient feels empowered to make informed decisions regarding their personal care. The details of my patients' lives matter to me. More importantly, how their health concerns impact their work, activities of daily living, and relationships with others are equally important to me. I want my patients to thrive and have their health concerns fully addressed.”
When it comes to words of encouragement and advice, she likes to remind everyone to, “Always invest in your health. It is one of the greatest investments you will ever make for yourself!”
Outside of work, Mary Kay enjoys spending time with her husband and their four pets (two dogs and two cats). She adds, “I love looking out for new restaurants in town to try, and I enjoy reading books, traveling and finding a good cup of coffee. When I am not in the clinic or the operating room, I teach barre fitness classes and take Spanish lessons.”
