Aelayna Meyer, M.D.

Aelayna Meyer, M.D., is board certified in dermatology and Mohs surgery. She has completed a fellowship training program in skin cancer surgery and advanced facial reconstruction. Her areas of interest are skin cancer treatment, Mohs surgery and facial reconstruction after Mohs surgery. Mohs surgery is a procedure that involves the treatment or removal of cancerous skin lesions. It is done in a way to help minimize the amount of skin removed during the process.

Dr. Meyer enjoys the unique challenges of wound reconstruction presented with every case. Her extensive training “has given me the opportunity to provide patients with a procedure that has the highest cure rate for most skin cancers of up to 99% and in most cases, same day reconstruction of the surgical wound,” she said. “There are also times that other treatment options may fit that patient’s needs best and I enjoy working with patients to help them come to an educated decision of what treatment is best for them.”

“Patients undergoing Mohs surgery are awake for the entire procedure as it is performed with only local anesthetic and not general anesthesia,” says Dr. Meyer. “This not only reduces many risks for the patient but also provides the opportunity for me to communicate with the patient during the entire procedure. I feel that this helps ease the anxiety that patients may feel regarding their treatment.”

During procedures, Dr. Meyer enjoys getting to know her patients and building relationships. She often enjoys great stories and excerpts from patient’s lives.

“I am always on board to hear a good ‘dad joke.’”

Dr. Meyer wants patients to know it’s important to advocate for their own health, especially if something is concerning them.

When Dr. Meyer isn’t working, she can be found traveling, doing yoga and spending time with her husband, two children, four cats and one dog.

Dr. Meyer’s education includes:
     • Fellowship in procedural dermatology at Fletcher Allen Health Center at the University of Vermont, 2014
     • Residency in dermatology at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, 2013
     • Medical degree at the University of Oklahoma (OU) College of Medicine, 2009
     • Bachelor of Science degree at Oklahoma State University (OSU), 2005
