Basic Hummus Recipe

Utica Park Clinic is partnering with Tulsa Health Department dietitians Megan and Melissa for Facebook Live Cooking Classes. Below is the recipe from Megan and Melissa's March 28th Facebook Live featuring Basic Hummus.

Ingredients

-(15-ounce) can Chickpeas, drained and rinsed (reserve the liquid)

-2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil

-3 garlic cloves

-2 tablespoons well-stirred tahini

-1/4 cup lime juice

-1/2 teaspoon salt

 

Directions:

1. Puree all ingredients in a food processor until smooth. Add reserved liquid from canned beans, if necessary, to achieve desired consistency.

2. Serve with warm pita bread, tortilla chips, pretzels or fresh veggies.

3. Tip: If you warm the chickpeas in their liquid on the stove for 30 minutes prior to blending, you will get a smoother consistency.

Options to change up the flavor:

-Add avocado, cilantro, ground cumin, jalapenos and red onion for a guacamole hummus.

-Replace chickpeas with black beans and add cumin and ground chiles to season for a black bean hummus. 

Recipe makes six servings.
