Yera Peavey, D.O., specializes in family medicine and is fluent in speaking English, Hindi and Gujarati. “I like letting my patients know we are on the same team. When every member of the team puts in the effort, we can reach our goals,” she said.
Dr. Peavey’s decision to work in family medicine was made at an early time in her course of becoming a doctor. “I worked in clinical research focusing on diabetes,” she said. “As I met and understood more patients, I felt that preventing common health issues was just as-if not more-important as treating them. This encouraged me to apply to medical school with the intent of entering primary care,” said Dr. Peavey.
Now, as a primary care provider, Dr. Peavey enjoys getting to care for patients. “Practicing family medicine gives me the opportunity to keep patients of all ages healthy. I also enjoy the day-to-day variety of outpatient family medicine,” she said.
When it comes to giving advice to her patients on their health, Dr. Peavey says, “Long-term goals require long-term sustainable changes.”
Dr. Peavey’s education includes:
• Residency in family medicine at Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences (OSU-CHS) in Tulsa, 2022
• Doctor of osteopathic medicine degree at Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine, 2019
• Bachelor of Science in biological sciences with emphasis in neurobiology, physiology and behavior at the University of California, Davis (UC Davis), 2011
When Dr. Peavey isn’t working, she can be found traveling, trying new restaurants, gardening and most recently, crocheting. An activity she did and would like to try again one day is skydiving!
