Scott Newbrough, M.D., specializes in plastic surgery. “I really enjoy spending time explaining both the clinical diagnosis and the options for treatment,” Dr. Newbrough said. “I often draw pictures or diagrams, frequently ask if patients have questions, and truly strive to help those I am fortunate enough to treat to understand the procedures they are pursuing.”
Dr. Newbrough’s decision to pursue a career in medicine was inspired by the physicians who provided care to him when he was growing up. “They were excellent role models as they always seemed knowledgeable and friendly, skillful and confident,” he said.
As Dr. Newbrough progressed through medical school and made his way into his residency, it was there that he learned what he wanted to focus his career on. “While in general surgery residency, I had the opportunity to work with plastic surgeons. I immediately was drawn to the seemingly miraculous ability those surgeons had to repair wounds, restore function and improve appearance,” he said.
When it comes to his patients, Dr. Newbrough said, “I advise patients that many plastic surgery procedures are very personal decisions; therefore, it’s important to take the time to think about how it will affect their life both now and in the future.”
Dr. Newbrough’s education includes:
• Fellowship in plastic and reconstructive surgery at the University of Texas Medical Center in Houston, 2009
• Residency in general surgery at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville, 2007
• Medical degree at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine, 2002
• Bachelor’s degree in biochemistry at the University of Oklahoma (OU), 1997
“While I perform a broad spectrum of plastic surgery procedures, my primary interests include breast reconstruction and other breast surgeries, body contouring, skin cancer treatment, as well as more complex reconstructions performed with other surgical specialties,” he said.
When Dr. Newbrough isn’t working, he enjoys spending time with his family and many outdoor activities like running, cycling, hiking and camping.
He welcomes new patients and accepts most insurance plans at the following location:
