Our breast screening services

Utica Park Clinic works closely with the team of breast care professionals at the Leta M. Chapman Breast Center inside the Peggy V. Helmerich Women’s Health Center at Hillcrest Medical Center to offer you technologically-advanced diagnostic imaging and radiology services. We utilize state-of-the-art technology to screen for breast cancer, including 3D mammography and breast MRI, for those at high risk for breast cancer or for patients who require more definitive breast imaging.

Our screening and diagnostic services include:

  • 3D and digital mammography
  • Breast MRI
  • Breast ultrasound
  • Stereotactic breast biopsy
  • Ultrasound-guided breast biopsy

For patients with a personal history of abnormal breast biopsies, and/or those who have a family history of breast or ovarian cancers, we offer breast cancer risk assessment consultations. Risk assessment consultations allow our team of breast care experts to identify whether or not advanced mammogram and MRI screening protocols should be applied to your breast care. Additionally, a genetic risk assessment will be performed and recommendations on whether or not to pursue genetic testing can be discussed.

If you have a known genetic mutation or believe you are at risk of a genetic mutation based on family or personal history, we offer a comprehensive genetic counseling program that is ready to help you every step of the way.

Breast cancer surgical treatments

Should you receive a breast cancer diagnosis, your care team may decide that breast cancer surgery is the best course of treatment for you. Our compassionate oncologists and breast surgeons will work closely with you to determine which procedure is right from you.

Our breast cancer surgeons are highly skilled, providing the following breast cancer surgery options to our patients:

  • Axillary node dissection – This is the complete removal of all lymph nodes from the armpit area (axilla) for patients with known cancer spread to lymph nodes.
  • Excisional breast biopsy — When a needle biopsy does not provide enough tissue for definitive diagnosis, an excisional biopsy by a breast surgeon may be needed.
  • Implant-based breast reconstruction — A reconstructive procedure using breast implants to help recreate the shape of the breast. When used, this is typically combined with a mastectomy procedure.
  • Lumpectomy – This procedure is also called breast-conserving surgery. During a lumpectomy, a surgeon removes the cancer and a margin of normal tissue surrounding the cancer. The goal is to leave as much healthy breast tissue behind as possible.
  • Mastectomy – This is complete removal of the breast tissue, including the nipple and areola. This type of mastectomy results in a “flat” cosmetic appearance.
  • Nipple-sparing mastectomy with reconstruction – This is complete removal of the breast tissue, however the nipple and areola are preserved to aid with reconstructive surgery options.
  • Oncoplastic breast reconstruction — A reconstructive procedure using your own breast tissue to create a cosmetic result after cancer removal. When used, this is typically combined with a lumpectomy procedure.
  • Sentinel lymph node biopsy – This is a procedure in which the lymph nodes most likely containing cancer are removed.
  • Tissue-based breast reconstruction — A reconstructive procedure using tissue from other parts of the body to help recreate the shape of the breast. When used, this is typically combined with a mastectomy procedure.

No matter what type of procedure you need, we will be with you every step of the way to ensure you feel supported and have the best outcome possible. Please call us to learn more.
