Linda Sullivan, D.O.

Linda Sullivan, D.O., has been practicing family medicine since 2007. She believes that a primary care doctor’s relationship with a patient should be the foundation of their care as a whole person. “Establishing that trusting relationship is key to good care, and it must be rooted in excellent communication – not just between doctor and patient, but with the patient’s whole healthcare team,” she said.

Dr. Sullivan’s interest in medicine started at a young age but did not truly accelerate until she was in the middle of a career as a classical musician playing the cello. “In my 30s, I decided to return to school as a pre-med student while still teaching and performing. I was going to just take it one course at a time, and eventually found myself in medical school! I had wonderful physician role models as a child, both my own doctors as well as family and friends. I always felt medicine was the most noble profession, and still do,” she said.

Dr. Sullivan decided to specialize in family medicine after completing her rotations. After enjoying several different aspects of each specialty in school, she found herself loving family medicine the most. “I realized that one of my strengths as a physician was as a listener, and that I could often quickly grasp the big picture and see it from many angles. I loved seeing patients of all ages, being on the ‘ground floor’ of the diagnostic process and collaborating with other physicians. I soon realized that family medicine was a perfect fit,” she said.

When giving advice to patients about getting healthy, Dr. Sullivan said, “I tell them that the best exercise is the one they do consistently and enjoy, and the best healthy eating plan is the one they follow and enjoy. There is no one-size-fits-all set of instructions and the most important thing is to make small changes gradually, find what works, and stick with it.”

Dr. Sullivan’s education includes:
     • Pre-medical undergraduate coursework at the University of Texas-Austin, 2002
     • Medical degree at Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine, 2007
     • Residency at Waco Family Medicine Institute in Texas, 2010

Dr. Sullivan likes to spend her free time riding horses with her daughter, exploring Tulsa’s many parks and playing the cello.
