Joel Horton, M.D.

Joel Horton, M.D., practices rheumatology (arthritis and autoimmune disease care) and has been in health care since 2016. “Health care is a partnership between patients and their providers,” he said. “Rheumatology is a complex field which includes many forms of arthritis and other autoimmune diseases. My goal is to help you understand your diagnosis and give you the options and tools to meet your goals. Ultimately, I want you to get relief from your symptoms and to live your life.”

Dr. Horton chose to pursue a career in health care after an experience in college. “I attended the University of Tulsa as a business management student, but I always had a strong interest in science,” he said. “After spending time volunteering at the OU Bedlam Clinic, I decided to apply to medical school.”

Dr. Horton encourages his patients to stay consistent when working towards improving their health. “Many kinds of arthritis and autoimmune diseases can take time to improve; sometimes treatments other than medications, such as physical therapy and exercise are needed as well. We will work together to find the best plan for you.”

Dr. Horton received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Tulsa in 2012. He earned a medical degree from the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine in 2016. He completed an internal medicine residency at Oregon Health and Science University in 2019. He completed a rheumatology fellowship at Oregon Health and Science University, Department of Arthritis and Rheumatology in 2021.

When he is away from the office, Dr. Horton enjoys spending time with family, cooking, hiking and watching Oklahoma City Thunder basketball.
