Alexia Dickey, D.O., specializes in family medicine at Utica Park Clinic. Dr. Dickey said, “I find it rewarding to not only treat disease but prevent it. As a family medicine physician, I have the unique privilege of building long-term relationships with my patients and often times with their entire family. This enables me to be at the forefront of promoting health and wellness in my community. In my eyes there is no better way to spend my day.”

Dr. Dickey was inspired to go into medicine after a close family member suffered a traumatic brain injury. “He had lost his ability to perform activities of daily living without having significant help. He participated in a study, which was using hyperbaric oxygen (oxygen while in a pressurized chamber) as a therapy for healing traumatic brain injury. I was amazed by his recovery and felt driven to work at the facility where he received this life-changing therapy. From there I realized my true passion was medicine and was inspired to become a PCP so that I could help others get their life back when their health is getting in the way,” she said.

When it comes to patients, she said she takes her time and listens intently with what each person has to say. “My patients deserve to feel heard, respected and cared for. Getting to know my patients on a personal level is vital so that I am able to take the best care of them. I believe that having compassion for others is important and I want my patients to feel comfortable talking to me about anything without fear of judgement. My job is not to tell people what they have to do but to be a resource and an advocate for them. I want my patients to be able to make informed decisions so that together we can choose the best treatment plan,” she said.

Dr. Dickey’s advice and reminder she likes to share with patients is that a healthy lifestyle is key for longevity and happiness. She said, “Medicine can be great but if we can achieve health without just giving you another pill then let’s strive for that. Let’s get to the root of a problem and fix that rather than just slapping a metaphorical ‘Band-Aid’ on it. Many problems and diseases can be treated through lifestyle modifications and decreasing the number of medications a person takes in a day, when appropriate, can improve their quality of life.”

Dr. Dickey’s medical professional areas of interest include women’s health, mental health, preventive care and chronic disease management including diabetes, hypertension, obesity, asthma, COPD, depression, anxiety and more. “I enjoy caring for patients of all ages, from infants to elderly and everyone in between,” she said. “Having trained in a rural setting I am comfortable managing a wide range of illnesses and will find a way to help my patients with anything they may be going through.”

Dr. Dickey’s education and career experience include:
     • Residency in family medicine at the University of Wyoming Family Practice in Casper, WY, 2023
     • Doctor of osteopathic medicine (D.O.) degree at Oklahoma State University (OSU) College of Osteopathic Medicine in Tulsa, 2020
     • Bachelor’s degree in molecular biology at Northeastern State University (NSU), 2015
