About Macy Gibson-Sanchez, D.O.
Macy Gibson-Sanchez, D.O., specializes in obstetrics and gynecology (OB-GYN) at Utica Park Clinic on the campus of Hillcrest Medical Center. Her professional areas of interest include minimally invasive gynecologic and robotic surgeries, obstetric care and adolescent gynecologic care. “I think it's very important for women to have an understanding of the importance of gynecologic care at an early age. I love taking care of women from a young age and then caring for them during their pregnancies and after as well. Taking care of patients during the most important time of their life and then having lifelong patients is a beautiful thing,” she said.
Dr. Gibson-Sanchez always knew she wanted to help people in some sort of way. Being a physician though wasn’t the first career she had in mind until she was in her first year of undergraduate school. She said, “My biology teacher/guidance counselor encouraged me to think about medicine and helped me along the way to applying for medical school. My PCP growing up also helped me out a lot along the way to becoming a physician.”
When it came to selecting a specialty, OB-GYN checked a lot of her boxes and interests. Dr. Gibson-Sanchez said, “I know that I like fast-paced environments and variety in my day-to-day life and OB-GYN offers me that. However, I ultimately chose obstetrics and gynecology because I really wanted to help improve women's health overall. Women's preventative health care is so important! I want to help women understand their own anatomy, physiology and to empower them to play a role in their health care.”
In an effort to build genuine relationships with her patients, Dr. Gibson-Sanchez makes sure to sit down, let patients talk and express concerns in depth. She adds, “I also think it is very important to spend time discussing and explaining treatment plans so that patients have an understanding of their diagnosis and can make educated decisions about their care. Learning about their hobbies and families is just a bonus!”
When Dr. Gibson-Sanchez isn’t working, she enjoys spending time with her husband, friends and family including her nephews and niece. She also likes to travel, discover new cultures, food, host dinner parties, attend concerts and go to sporting events. She adds, “We also love taking our Bernese Mountain Dog walking, hiking and on other adventures.”
