About Girish Mohan, M.D.
Girish Mohan, M.D., specializes in dermatology at Utica Park Clinic (UPC). His key medical area of interest includes skin cancer.
Dr. Mohan’s inspiration to pursue a career in health care began at a young age. He said, “By the time I was in high school, I knew I was meant to go into medicine - I first discovered my interest when I was fascinated by biology and learning about the health sciences.”
During his time in high school, Dr. Mohan would quickly discover what he wanted to specialize in. He said, “My interest in dermatology also started in high school due to my struggles with severe acne. By the time I got to medical school, my experiences in the dermatology clinic cemented my decision. I was fascinated by the ability to make an instant diagnosis by visual inspection, and also enjoyed the breadth of dermatology including surgery, pathology and light-based treatments, in addition to being able to form long-term relationships with patients.”
Dr. Mohan values connecting with his patients. He said, “I really do try to get to know my patients on a personal level and connect with them over shared interests and experiences as we see each other over time.”
Outside of work, Dr. Mohan enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter, traveling, reading and fitness.
A key piece of advice Dr. Mohan likes to share with his patients is to try to watch your moles regularly for potential development of melanoma skin cancer using the "ABCDE" rule of thumb: A for asymmetry, B for border irregularities, C for color changes, D for diameter greater than 6mm (size of a pencil eraser) and E for evolving (mole changing over time or looks different from the rest of your moles). “Come in for an appointment if you notice any of these,” he said.
