Pulmonology/Critical Care

Michael Scott, D.O., specializes in pulmonary and critical care medicine. His professional areas of interest also include pulmonary hypertension, interstitial lung disease, COPD and refractory asthma.

“I knew that I wanted to treat the whole patient, not just one organ or specialty,” said Dr. Scott. “This drew me toward internal medicine with my sights set on pulmonary and critical care. Within critical care, we see the sickest of the sickest and treat the whole patient and body to fight for their life and restore their health. Pulmonary is a natural fit with critical care, and it gets more interesting every day that I’m in this field of medicine.”

Dr. Scott said his inspiration to become a doctor began at the age 7. He said his grandmother had a serious stroke and was dying. The attending physician displayed such compassion and care through the whole process that it left him with motivation to one day do the same.

Now, as Dr. Scott works to provide care, he takes that same inspiration that drove him and puts it into building relationships with patients. “I build relationships with my patients by providing compassionate and genuine care. I give them the time they need, and I make sure they feel heard and respected,” he said.

Dr. Scott encourages patients to be proactive about their health. “Don’t put it off until tomorrow because tomorrow may never come. You must act now and take ownership of your heath,” he said.

Outside of work, Dr. Scott enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, enjoying a great meal and watching sports, especially soccer and college football.

Dr. Scott’s education and experience includes:
     • Fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine at Northwestern University in Chicago, 2017
     • Chief medical resident in internal medicine at the University of Louisville, 2014
     • Residency in internal medicine at the University of Louisville, 2013
     • Intern in internal medicine at the University of Louisville, 2011
     • Doctor of osteopathic medicine (D.O.) degree from Oklahoma State University (OSU) College of Osteopathic Medicine, 2010
     • Bachelor’s degree in biochemistry at the University of Oklahoma (OU), 2005
