About Anthony Durfey, D.O.
Anthony Durfey, D.O., specializes in family medicine at Utica Park Clinic (UPC). His professional areas of interest include diabetes, hypertension, sports medicine, depression/anxiety and COPD. In addition to English, he is fluent in Spanish.
Dr. Durfey’s fascination with medicine began at a relatively young age. He said, “Growing up, I loved playing sports and became quickly interested in the human body and how it all worked together.”
As Dr. Durfey’s personal and professional journey evolved, so did the experiences that helped shape his career. He realized this after spending two years in Guatemala connecting with people of all ages. He said, “I knew I wanted to combine my fascination with the human body with developing relationships with people. Family medicine allows me to do that over a long period of time and gives me the variety I was looking for.”
Now, as Dr. Durfey channels his passion for helping others with medicine, he makes sure to set a good foundation for a positive patient experience. “It all starts with trust. I think trust can be gained quickly when people can feel that you truly do care for their well-being and that you’re passionate in your craft. I genuinely love people and love what I do and think people can feel that from me,” he said.
When it comes to advice, he likes to remind his patients to take baby steps. “I’ve had many visits where someone feels overwhelmed with their medical issues, whether it’s physical or mental, and I have to remind them that baby steps can lead to big changes,” he said.
Outside of work, Dr. Durfey is an avid sports fan. “Whether it’s playing or watching,” he added. “I also enjoy reading, running, traveling, trying new restaurants, and doing it all with my wife and kids. I am also a diet Mountain Dew addict.”
Something patients may not expect when they come in for their appointment is an informal doctor, said Dr. Durfey. “I like to chat with patients like I would with family or friends. I also like to present options, give my thoughts and then let them sort of drive the car after that,” he said.
